This family home sits close to the top of a hill and offers views across Manly Beach to the ocean. It was designed for a prominent businessman and his wife and intended to serve as their home upon their family’s return to Sydney after an extensive period in London.
The project conserves the original bungalow features which are visible from the street. Extensive building work means that the rear of the house is now opened up to capture expansive beach views across three levels, which all feature large timber decks. The interior elements are crafted from sustainably sourced Australian hardwoods and include Spotted Gum plywood floors and Bamboo veneer joinery.
The process of design and final documentation was communicated via electronic media between the client in London, the project manager in Los Angeles and the architects in Sydney.
