This project involved a major renovation of a Heritage building in Cremorne
Point. The design - while providing a light and contemporary new addition
to the rear of the house - nevertheless focussed on respecting and preserving
the many period features of the original building. The concept was to
preserve the front of the building but insert a modern two-storey addition
to the rear which reached inside the heritage envelope. The new addition
comprises a large open-plan kitchen, living and breakfast area, which
opens onto a sunny, east-facing courtyard. On the second floor are the
study and two bedrooms housed within the existing shell, while the new
section contains a slick, contemporary bathroom and the master-suite,
with its own ensuite, dressing room, storage wall with integrated bar
fridge and bi-folding glass doors that open to a deck with views over
Mosman Bay. The elements of the design are classic and refined in their
expression, which produces a comfortable juxtaposition of the original
features with the new.
